Glimpses from December's Final Days

Setting the table at Matt and Gina's for Christmas dinner.

G's Maine Coon Cat, T-Baby.

The old tobacco barn throws a long shadow onto the bleached grass of December.

Colors seemed clear and bold at noon on Christmas day.

The flower gardens are only a memory of summer.
Seed heads of purple coneflower.

Christmas Eve morning, sharp and frosty.

Breakfast for a cold morning: waffles with a topping of blackberries from our garden [via the freezer] maple syrup and a side of turkey bacon.

Bobby McGee displays his white tummy and fat paws, while Mima sleeps beside him.

What a dear little face!

    1. Vicki; 'Bobby Mac" sounds like a great nickname for our funny cat. Mima is sweet and pretty, but an utter simpleton--I'm sure we've all had a cat like that!

  2. I love the glimpse into your Christmas, and I see that the cats were more than happy to join in the fun. I am slightly bemused by the sort of "sweet and sour" elements of your breakfast but I bet it kept you going all day. The blackberries look HUGE! So do Bobby McGee's feet - he must be mostly Maine Coone surely?!

    1. Jennie; No idea of the 3 boy cat's parentage--two long-haired [three if you count the neighborhood stray] and Edward who is of a different 'build' and sleek.
No 'sweet and sour' as the berries are sweetened and made into a thickened sauce.

  3. I love the Maine Voon Cat he looks very feisty.
Your breakfast looks yummy, its funny but here we don't tend to put sweet with savoury, the blackberries would possibly only be used in a pie or made into wine.
Look forward to your 2014 posts Sharon.

    1. Briony, Interesting that you and Jennie, both from the UK, found the berries an odd part of our breakfast. It is a common topping here for waffles or pancakes, served in restaurants that specialize in a good breakfast menu. In season we also put fresh berries on top of a waffle--you should try it!

    1. Rainey; Our Christmas was very simple--mostly the collaboration on a lovely dinner. I've given up trying to decorate around the cat population!

    1. Lillian; If you've read the above comments you've noted that our English friends are astonished by the American habit of putting berries on waffles! My husband likes the frozen berries made into a sauce and merely dumped on toast!

  8. I love all the photos. I love older homes especially with natural woodwork. I know it's nosy but I would have loved to see a photo in that front living room. What you showed was very pretty. Happy New Year to you!

    1. Softie; Not sure how many photos I might have of daughter G.'s house. I am the lover of natural woodwork, G. prefers white. My house has the white!
