Cooking for one is not as much fun but I am trying to do better and cook healthier. Cash and Carry amounts are not worthwhile for the two of us, but I try to look for offers as I go around the local towns.

I can imagine that the food bought from the Memmonite farmers is as good as you can get. We had a good wander around just to look at everything-all very new to this "city girl"-it was great! We will probably do our grocery shopping at the WalMart in that town too. The little grocery store in the town nearer to us is terribly expensive! Looking forward to our first winter out here!Janhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10314254638454546970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7314065896417867122.post-48855264553217137602012-11-28T10:23:16.495-05:002012-11-28T10:23:16.495-05:00What a lovely feeling, to have the cupboards stock...What a lovely feeling, to have the cupboards stocked up, ready for whatever Winter throws at you.Kathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04003521059890699861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7314065896417867122.post-59547941011795038192012-11-28T09:29:03.251-05:002012-11-28T09:29:03.251-05:00That's where I go, Tractor Supply here. The prices for groceries here is unreal, even with the Walmart here, you really don't save too much there either.
I wish we could get a co-op started here, it was tried, but never came about.
Great post this morning, MM. Another advantage, the store is about 10 minutes away from my home.
Lillian
lillianscupboard.wordpress.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7314065896417867122.post-58180550319960308452012-11-28T06:51:30.585-05:002012-11-28T06:51:30.585-05:00Really enjoyed this post ...I too have found that ...Really enjoyed this post ...I too have found that one does not always save when buying in bulk.
A friend used to take me to a 'cash and carry' to get large packs of tinned goods and catering sized items ...yes they were cheaper than local small stores but when I did all the calculations it was actually pennies cheaper in Tescos and I only had to buy what I actually needed ...not in 24's or 10 kilos or X-liters....so I stopped going and she was surprized!!I do wish I could get the unbleached and natural goods ...they are so expensive when you actually find them.xxAngiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12177505346903016669noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7314065896417867122.post-18755566481126871912012-11-28T06:48:47.067-05:002012-11-28T06:48:47.067-05:00We have a membership at SAM's club too, but it...We have a membership at SAM's club too, but it's only about 5 or so miles away. The last time we went was in July. I am running out of some things so will need to go again the beginning of the year. I've been wondering about not renewing membership too. I do like buying some things in quantity, like the flour, oats, coffee, olive oil, dried fruit, things like that, canned cat food, to mix with the dry.

I'm getting in the mood to bake again.

Hugs to you and happy holidays,
FlowerLadyFlowerLady Lorrainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17678852154334714784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7314065896417867122.post-22419910037317970352012-11-28T03:53:33.568-05:002012-11-28T03:53:33.568-05:00I enjoyed reading about your shopping trip and wha...I enjoyed reading about your shopping trip and what you stock up on. Here, if you're running a business (particularly catering/pubs/shops etc) you can buy membership of a Cash and Carry and buy in a similar way. I think Costco has a UK base as well.

Here, as an individual, you can order Wholefoods from Suma, but only if you live more than 20 miles (I think) from a shop which stocks Suma supplies. Some folk share an order to make the quantities more viable as the minimum order is £250.

I think there are other outlets now, but as there are just us 2 here now, and one of us is as fussy as all get out, it's not worth bulk buying, though having said that, last year we got a BIG sack of rolled oats for Muesli and I have my bread flour by the big sackload too. This we buy more or less at wholesale prices from our locally-run co-operative shop in Brechfa.

I can quite understand your having to undertake a longish journey to reach the bulk-buy shops, but it sounds like it almost counts as a "day out" as you can enjoy the scenery along the way and you are still sprightly enough to trot along the aisles once you get there!

Bovey Bellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13117332471600275100noreply@blogger.com
