Jubilee

June 22, 1963
Jubilee
A specially celebrated anniversary, especially a 50th anniversary.
The celebration of such an anniversary.
A season or an occasion of joyful celebration.

Any homily I could compose regarding marriage would be filled with cliche phrases.
We all know that 'happily ever after' is a myth!
An enduring relationship calls for large doses of patience, tolerance, forgiveness, cooperation.
There will be sickness, anxiety, financial crisis, family troubles.
There will be fun, laughter, love-making, the good moments to remember.

Thank you to the family, friends, and neighbors who made our jubilee an occasion of happy memories!

  1. CONGRATULATIONS on your Diamond Wedding. I loved both photographs - what a gorgeous sparkly wedding dress you had. I agree with you about what makes a relationship work - but you forgot the vital ingredient - CATS!!!

    1. Jennie; I was thinking 'Golden' Anniversary, but I could be mistaken.
[Gold was not among our gifts, nor was diamonds!]
CATS indeed are the ingredient that turn a mere house into a warm, cozy [hairy/furry] home!
My wedding dress had a silvery thread woven into the lace fabric--I wasn't much of a seamstress then and finding ready-mades in my size was a nightmare!

  2. Congratulations! what a lovely couple. Anyone who has survived all those years of building and renovation and is still happily married, has obviously taken her wedding vows seriously! :-D

  4. Bravo on such a milestone, or is it steps? Way to go, both of you.
In this day of age, to be together IS an accomplishment, some don't even get to 6 months or 6 days.
To be married is a lot of everything rolled into a life. There are many, as you mentioned, bumps in the roads or major construction projects, and it just is not love, but a respect and a compassion and a little love in there that helps and a lot of just plain luck.
    Awesome.

    1. Vicki; Wise thoughts on the marriage process--and I like the notion of the years being reckoned as 'major construction projects!'

  6. "Congratulations" to you both. I agree with everything you wrote on marriage. He's a man that loves cats, too, so he's alright in my book. Enjoy your celebration. Hugs,

    1. Deb; The love of our resident pets, especially the cats, has always been a bond.

  7. Congratulations! Your description of marriage is right on target and incidentally your dress is very pretty -- that was my first thought when I saw the dress. We are approaching 54 years. I was thinking I should write a book of advice -- there's such a lot young people don't know. They know all about sex and very little about love and commitment.

    1. Chris; With your mention of a book of advice I thought of the Home Ec class I took in my senior year of high school. We had a unit on making fancy desserts--much better would have been some time spent learning to feed a family on a budget! I think most young people of my generation went into marriage with little thought of how finances, children, spouses' families [ to name a few] would impact the relationship.
