Catly Portraits

Willis: "I don't want to look at you or your camera."

Nellie: "In a minute I will pounce on a grasshopper. Right now I'm thinking."

Teasel: "Something strange is happening. Leaves falling all around me."

LIttle Edward:  "Oh! Fun!"

Little Edward:  "Why is she telling me to get down?  I'm helping!"

Willow: "I know somebody is watching me.  I 'll walk very quietly."

Charlie:  "I've had a taxing day--leave me alone."

Bobby McGee: "This basket is made for curling--not stretching."

Little Edward: " I don't understand--what does 'get down!' mean?"

  1. Looks like my house, MM.
    No one here knows what the word "get down" means here. I said it so many times yesterday when I was canning apples and pears that it was drilled in my head when I went to sleep. Everyone wanted to look at the bubbling cauldron of fruit on the stove.
    Have a wonderful weekend

    1. Vicki; These are the most persistent and nosey kittens we've housed in years---nothing/nowhere is out of bounds!

  2. Little Edward would get on well with our Ellie ...she sits in the draining tray and watches as the bubbles in the basin, rise. She loves water ... and bubbles even more....as for 'Get Down'... I dont think it translates into 'cat'...but one or two have mastered the sign language.

    Gorgeous photos of them all xx

    1. Oh, I like that--commands that don't translate to cat language! We've used a 'squirt bottle' in the past to discipline some cats--it would never work with these three--they love water--popping round the shower curtain to 'help.'

  3. Oh my goodness, Bobbi McGee's photo is priceless.
    It's amazing what these munchkins can get into. This is why I leave boxes out for them. It helps....a bit. Love the outdoor photos. They really do love to wander through the grass. I only wish it was safe for all cats to do that. Have a great day.

    1. Deb;
      I wish that I could be sure the indoor/outdoor cats are perfectly safe--which, of course, isn't possible. Several of them were acclimated to being outside before they came to us, and house 'manners' didn't come naturally.
      Cats do love boxes and baskets--and high shelves from which they can peer at lowly humans!

      There is never a dull moment with cats--each has his/her own personality.

    1. Em;
      Willis has demonstrated a 'cool' demeanor ever since he rode in from next door on my husband's 4-wheeler. It was as though he hopped down, settled his stripes and introduced himself. He fairly swaggers.

  6. What happy cats. I have to say, Edward reminds me so much of our Jarvis - same expressions and nosiness : )

    1. Jennie; I think Little Edward is rather a treasure. He is being ever so naughty about the sink and the kitchen counters--and gazes at me so innocently when I remove him. Such a sweetie!

  7. I would guess that Little Edward is a very bright cat. All that exploring ........One day he will learn what "Get down!'" means but until then it is a cat`s business to experiment!

    1. Ann; I suspect that cats often understand what we want them to do--and their sense of superiority tells them they don't have to cater to us!

  8. Oh my, my, MM, how typical. You mustn't intrude while they're busy!

    1. Chris; These kittens [whom I'm sure we didn't need] are providing a great deal of entertainment. They play so energetically and then melt into puddles of sleep--oblivious.

  9. You know just how to capture your cats - in photos and in captions.

    I meant to mention earlier that I love your new header photo.

    1. Lillian; I am so pleased with the photo of the seedpod. So many of my photos are mediocre and my camera is a simple one. When one turns out really well I wish I knew how I did it!

    1. Leanne; Our Willis is a very suave gentleman--he is also a 'mighty hunter' type--a fact which I have to ignore as it can't be changed.

  11. Adorable cat portraits! Is little Edward new to the family? I think he might be my favorite.

    1. Diane; Little Edward and his two brothers were 'dropped' off at the end of July, very thin and dirty. All three have great personalities, but I must admit that L.E. is a charmer. He reminds me of a much-loved and much-missed semi-Siamese from a decade ago.

    1. Lorraine; I love to imagine what cats might say if they could use human language.
