A Cool, Quiet Morning in the Garden

J. prepares to plant hills of cucumber and muskmelon.
If you look closely you will spy Willis the Cat crouching in the row of over-wintered kale.

Shrub rose, Hawkeye Belle.

The roses are not suffering from mildew, J. sprinkled some lime about yesterday and some of it caught it in the leaves.

Roseraie de l'Hay, an old [1901] rugosa.
A friend in Vermont had several of these, all grown from the cuttings of beloved family rose bushes.
The rugosas are my favorite of the rose varieties.
This one has a heavenly scent.

This un-named red peony is a recent purchase from one of the Mennonite nurseries in South Fork.

The rugosas open to soft nodding blooms.

I haven't found a name for this invasive vine which wraps and twines about anything that will stand still.
Here it tangles through a clump of catnip.

  1. I'm longing to get out in my garden, but we've had a little bit of rain which has kept me indoors, and now I am decorating, again . . . I am So fed up with painting!!! The wall had started to look tired though . . .

  2. I love your roses. Rugosas do not like our heat and humidity. I'm looking forward to puttering in my gardens again. Between work and learning a new computer there hasn't much outdoor time this past week.

Have a lovely weekend ~ FlowerLady
